Merville BeachMerville Beach is an extremely friendly, unpretentious and fun hotel, popular with the British. Situated on the fashionable north west coast of Mauritius, it has an ideal setting on a picturesque sandy beach. The main hotel complex, which lies in lush and well groomed tropical gardens, has simply-furnished bedrooms in neutral colours with a good range of facilities. Each of the 169 sea-facing rooms has its own balcony and bathroom. Accommodation in the new Garden Court is surrounded by ponds, fountains, tropical flowers and colourful trees and the hotel also has 38 luxury thatched cottages built in local stone. Food is plentiful and unfussy. Lunch and cocktails are served at the Badamier bar next to the neat swimming pool and an adjacent terraced dining room and covered dance floor are used only in the evenings. Night life is cosmopolitan, varied and fun and guests can expect to be entertained by themed floor shows such as a Brazilian carnival, Sega or Mexican cabaret. Watersports facilities are excellent and an adjacent professional scuba diving centre, run by a qualified instructor, provides facilities for both beginners and experienced divers at reasonable cost. An abundance of catamaran cruises and trips on glass-bottom boats are available from Grand Baie. For the less energetic, the pool has a spacious sunbathing deck and the hotel can also arrange for guests to enjoy a relaxing round of golf on the Trou aux Biches hotel course a short drive away. Merville Beach is only a ten minute walk from the lively, bustling village of Grand Baie with its excellent tax free shopping and a wide selection of bars and restaurants. Port Louis, the vibrant and historic capital city, is only twenty minutes drive and is well worth a visit for sightseeing and shopping at the impressive Caudan Centre on the waterfront or in the bustling markets. The famous botanical Pamplemousses Gardens are also in easy striking distance. Offering excellent value for money, Merville Beach is a very comfortable British-managed hotel and an ideal base from which to explore Mauritius. |
