LUX* Belle MareA new generation of hotel in Mauritius for the increasingly discerning guest. The 174 room LUX* Belle Mare faces the ocean, on a spectacular stretch of beach where sand banks gently disappear into the sea creating a lagoon ideal for bathers. It is known locally as “Little Ile aux Cerfs” because it so resembles the nearby island beauty spot. The thatched-roof villas and soft warmth of the subtle yet colourful Mauritian architecture blend easily with the surrounding natural environment. The 162 guest bedrooms are extra large (60 square metres) and ocean facing with terrace or balcony. The spacious bathrooms have BIG baths: room for two! The utterly sumptuous 240 square metre Maharajah Suite (300 square metres with adjoining bedroom) has three terraces, its own private solarium plus two jacuzzi - one in the huge bedroom and one outside. Both overlook the ocean. There are a further 11 individually designed suites, each spacious - two 100 square metre senior suites in either African or Chinese design, and nine 90 square metre Junior and Honeymoon suites - each with jacuzzi and terraces. 24 hour room service and customer care is available for all guest rooms or suites. The choice of four very different restaurants offers creative cuisine to excite the palate, inspired by Chinese, Indian, French, Creole and Mediterranean influences. At Indouchine, the hotel’s gourmet restaurant, dining is made even finer with Tiffany & Co. silver cutlery, and Le Langoustier is a lobster extravaganza. Regular visits from celebrity chefs such as Michel Roux (Le Gavroche, London) and Paul Bocuse, Jean Fleury and Roger Jailoux (Restaurant Paul Bocuse, Lyons) give further stimulation to the taste buds. The night livens at Club Savanne, the bar with an African beat: one of three bars. The bar at La Mediterannée, where guests dine beachside alfresco, is open all day, while bar Trou Lou Lou, an oasis between the pool and the ocean is ideal for drinks and snacks. At Epicure, the delicatessen in the lobby, guests can purchase all sorts of treats, from Champagne and caviar to biscuits, chocolate and local delicacies. The Thalgo Spa offers wonderful massage (also available in guest bedrooms), body treatments to pamper away those extra inches and facials. The gym has the latest state of the art Panata equipment from Italy. Hairdressing is by French stylist Didier Luigi. The children’s Mini Club offers daily, supervised activities for 3 to 11 years old with trained nannies on hand for baby sitting. The island’s largest swimming pool (1,850sqm), the coral reef protected lagoon, the boat house’s abundant watersports, flood-lit tennis, mountain bikes and horse riding along the endless beach, are just some of the activities available. ‘Must have’ designer swim-wear and leisure-wear can be purchased at the Janet Reger boutique in the lobby, Reger’s first overseas swim-wear outlet. |
