Dental, medical and beauty treatments in Mauritius.

Recently I required emergency dental treatment while on a business trip in Mauritius. I was so impressed by the quality of care I received and even more pleased when I was presented with my bill: it was about 50% less than I would have paid back in the UK. I later reflected about how much more convenient it would be to receive dental treatments in a modern, state-of-the-art dental clinic when combined with a holiday. Perhaps this would be something that would interest my clients? Since my initial treatment, I have now made appointments for my children to receive first class dental treatment in Mauritius.

Over the years, Mauritius has built an enviable reputation as a world- class holiday destination. Recently health tourism has become popular and Mauritius has now embraced this new opportunity to offer visitors the unbeatable combination of a great holiday destination and a place to have your dental treatments and cosmetic surgery procedures.

Mauritius now proudly boasts some of the best dentists, dental surgeons, hygienists and cosmetic doctors. All are fully trained by the world's best universities. Consulting rooms are modern and have a very secure atmosphere. Equipment is the most sophisticated available and offers you care at affordable prices. With a medical background, having trained as a nurse myself, I was reassured that I was in safe hands.

Contact Susie Freeman Travel or visit the Esthétique Mauritius web site for more information. We will be happy to arrange transfers to and from your dental appointment, if required.

Please note that some spa treatments are not suitable for guests with certain medical conditions and to avoid disappointment, you should seek medical advice from your own doctor prior to departure regarding your suitability for particular treatments.

With the help of some of the skilled therapists from the leading hotel spas within the Susie Freeman Travel portfolio, we hope you will enjoy the experience and be able to book your treatment with complete confidence.

Finding your perfect treatment

Clients often wish to try out new kinds of spa treatments while on holiday. Many travellers may be very familiar with Western spa treatments or it may be your first visit to a spa. Treatments can be varied but all are intended to promote relaxation and well-being. Your therapist will tailor a treatment specifically to your needs but this guide may help in the meantime.

Spa FAQs

How should I make an appointment for a treatment?
Appointments are generally scheduled on a first come-first served basis. Each hotel spa recommends that guests book their appointments in advance to avoid disappointment.

What if I cannot attend an appointment?
Most hotel spas require two hours notice for the cancellation for any treatment. Cancellation without prior notice will be charged 50% of the treatment fee and for a no-show after confirmation 75% of the treatment fee will be charged to the guest's room. Please check with the Spa at your chosen hotel as conditions do vary.

How long will my treatment take?
Each treatment is unique but generally last between 30 minutes and 2 hours 40 minutes.

What can I expect of my treatment rooms?
Your massage or spa treatment can be in a single, couples room or outdoor room right on the beach. Some treatments may also be offered in the privacy of your own hotel room.

Are there medical conditions that preclude having treatments?
If you have any of the following health conditions we would advise you to consult your doctor prior to travel. It may also be wise to take a GP letter with you to the spa to allow your therapist to select the most relaxing and health-giving treatments specifically for you. Some spa treatments are not suitable for guests with certain medical conditions and ailments. Please indicate at the time of booking if any of the following contra-indications apply:

Pregnant/trying • recent operations • heart condition • high or low blood pressure • epilepsy • diabetes • respiratory conditions • circulatory conditions • allergies • varicose veins • scar tissue • on medication or any other medical conditions.

Spa etiquette

To preserve each spa's tranquil environment, it is generally expected that guests arrive 15 minutes before their treatment and leave pagers and mobile phones turned off. Please remember that spas are smoke and alcohol-free environments. It is recommended that alcohol not be consumed before, during or immediately after your spa treatments for at least 45 to 60 minutes.

What should guests wear during their treatment?
Guests may wish to wear their own bikini or briefs, or the spa can provide you hygienic disposable briefs. Alternatively, treatments may be enjoyed without clothes. Therapists will always use draping techniques to respect your privacy.

Can guests ask the therapist to accommodate personal preferences and/or to adjust the treatment pressure to increase comfort?
Spas definitely encourage this practice as guests should enjoy the experience to the fullest whether it is the music selection, volume, the amount of pressure or a personal favourite from the spa's specially blended oils.

What about a guest's watch, jewellery and valuables?
Guests should leave these personal items in their room's electronic safe, otherwise a locker will be provided.

What preparations should I make before having a facial?
It is recommended that men shave a few hours prior to a facial treatment.
