Lying in the Indian Ocean (20 17 S, 57 33 E) to the east of Madagascar and Southern Africa, the island of Mauritius was discovered by the Portuguese in 1505 and before its independence in 1968, was held by the Dutch, French and British. Mauritius is of volcanic origin, is ringed almost entirely by coral reefs and has a stable democracy with regular free elections and a positive human rights record. The country has attracted considerable foreign investment and has earned one of Africa's highest per capita incomes, with tourism playing a significant part in its economy. The quality of the hotels and villas, and the variety of their facilities, make Mauritius an aspirational destination for the discerning traveller. Visitors to this paradise island will subsequently enjoy the innate hospitality of the Mauritian people and some of the world's best customer service. All the hotels on the island are within about an hour's drive of the airport. You will be met in the airport arrivals hall by my representatives in Mauritius and then taken by private car to your chosen hotel or beach villa. To make your initial search easier, I have listed the hotels in approximate price order and categorised them according to my own personal views to produce a star rating. Prices vary considerably according to the season, type of room and the category of flight but I can provide quotes for any number of hotel options upon request. In principle, including economy flights, transfers, all taxes and accommodation on a half board basis per person per week, the general prices are as indicated on the right hand panel. • Flights - From the UK direct flights are available on British Airways from Gatwick and Air Mauritius from London Heathrow Terminal 4. It is also possible to fly on Emirates via Dubai. Air France and Air Mauritius also offer a service via Paris. The flight time to Mauritius from the UK is about 12 hours. Prior to departure all my clients receive a comprehensive guide providing all the information they may need to get the most from this magical island. Further information is also available from the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority. |
