The Phantom Forest

The Phantom Forest Eco Reserve on the Southern Cape coast of South Africa is set in the heart of a magnificent natural landscape.

Nestling in the Afromontane Forest, just 7 kilometres from Knysna, the endless views from the elevated "tree suites" endless are shared only by fish eagles soaring above the treetop canopy.

The Tree suites, which have been created in harmonious balance with nature, each have their own entrance area, bedroom and sitting room. Each suite has a stunning end-glass gable and the glass-roof bathroom with its double-ended bath makes you feel as if you have an outdoor spa bath in your own room! The spectacular bathrooms have twin basins, separate shower room with bidet and loo. There is also a relaxing deck to enjoy the forest views. I would recommend the Upper Tree Camp for a real sense of privacy where you can gently wake in the morning to birdsong.

The decoration for each apartment is in natural fabrics in subtle creams, earth-tones and black in the Xhosa style. All suites have stunning views over the Knysna Lagoon or Forest.

The food at both the Boma, serving international food with a local twist and Chutspah, a Moroccan-style restaurant is outstanding, both will serve a six course feast of local delicacies. There is also an option of picnic lunches for real "escape from it all" privacy.

The spa, mini-gym, sauna and bubble-barrel will enervate you after some gentle exercise and there are also magnificent golf courses along the Garden-Route.

The staff are super friendly and efficient. I would highly recommend this resort to couples and honeymooners who want a quiet environment with first class service, food and drinks.

The nearby Knysna Elephant Park and Cango Wildlife Sanctuary is a must-see. Visit the beautiful stalactites in the Cango Caves in Oudtshoorn and the coastal splendour of Knysna Heads. Explore the Forest on mountain bikes, quads or by 4x4 where you will see monkeys, baboons, wild pig and deer in their natural habitat. A holiday at The Phantom Forest will let you experience the evocative sounds, scents and tastes of Africa at their very best.
