Ant's Nest & Ant's Hill

Ant's Nest is hosted by Ant and Tess Barber with their competent and friendly team. Lying in a natural amphitheatre the original homestead, with its wide verandahs, has a classic African atmosphere.

From December 2006, Ant's Nest will be able to sleep 12 in 6 bedrooms, so is ideal for bigger groups looking for exclusivity. During low season single rooms can be booked.

Tessa who grew up in Kenya, brought the colonial home a stylish warmth using classic furniture furnished from local fabrics, timber and stone. The 15 metre pool in the garden has had a heating unit added and is surrounded by extensive lawns and beds of indigenous plants. A wide variety of game frequent the waterhole in front of the house where horses and dogs abound!  It is a children's paradise.

Ant's Hill is hosted by Paul and Daleen and their wonderful staff who create an open and friendly atmosphere. Built by Ant on the edge of a cliff next to a waterfall, the bush home offers breathtaking views across the Waterberg. With spacious rooms and vast folding doors the thatched lodge blends into the bush while the exotic furniture and brightly coloured African fabrics make it both sophisticated and comfortable. An additional twin room added to the family cottage means that Ant's Hill can now comfortably sleep 12.

Set in boulders on the edge of the cliff the swimming pool cascades over the lip of the gorge, inducing you to relax there for hours. Ant's Hill is sold on a non-exclusive basis, allowing single room bookings. Groups of more than six adults can still book it exclusively.

Also available is 'World's View' cottage at Ant's Hill. Privately appointed, this stunning cottage has vast indoor and outdoor living areas. With its private pool it can accommodate two couples or a family, and features waterfall and outside showers, a lounge with fireplace and a large decked verandah to maximize the stunning views.

Riding • Both Ant's Nest and Ant's Hill offer the opportunity for some of the greatest game viewing in the African bush from horseback. You can canter along open sandy tracks or traverse high ridges with spectacular vistas. The pace can be as fast or relaxed as the rider would like.

Bush Walks • For those who prefer walking, your qualified game ranger will guide you through the bushveld on foot.

Game Drives • A game ranger will be available to take you out in an open 4x4 land cruiser whenever you wish, using a spotlight at night to find elusive nocturnal animals.

Family Safaris • Ant's Nest and Ant's Hill will give your children a life-changing experience. Special activities are laid on for children and teenagers who enjoy getting involved in the running of a game ranch.

The reserves are situated on an escarpment looking over the Waterberg Plateau in the Limpopo Province, three hours north of Johannesburg International Airport. The whole area is malaria free.
