A True Discovery - Patrick Mavros comes to Mauritius • The Patrick Mavros Atelier, meaning “workshop”, is a must for any visitor to Mauritius. The workshop located in Terre Rouge on the northern outskirts of Port Louis is a classic colonial African style boutique on the ground floor, adjoined with an outdoor Mauritian lava walled courtyard where drinks are served. Upstairs is the workshop and design studio.

The store has been carefully furnished with an eclectic mixture of furniture pieces sourced from around the world - antiques from India and Parisian markets, Swahili tiles, Zimbabwean Batonka doors and stools. The owner and designer Forbes Mavros has designed silver monkey door handles for the store and iron gates incorporating native animals of Mauritius. Another talking point for the store is a dramatic, seven metre staircase that connects the boutique to the workshop above, hanging in this void is a specially commissioned chandelier, depicting monkeys running up a banana tree stem. Their other stores are in London and Harare.

Lighter. Brighter. • LUX* Island Resorts is a collection of premium hotels in the Indian Ocean offering guests the opportunity to celebrate island life and enjoy light living. It's the new name and consumer brand for the luxury hotels previously operating under the 'Naïade Resorts Limited' umbrella. Relaunched on December 1, the Group has three resorts in SFT's Mauritius portfolio: LUX* Belle Mare, LUX* Le Morne and LUX* Grand Gaube.

LUX* Belle Mare • This newly decorated resort has undergone quite a transformation. Sleeptight mattresses have been introduced to enhance the comfort for all guests. A Cinema-in-the-Sea is a novel idea and one I must try out on my next visit! And for kids of all ages, an ice cream parlour has been added to help keep us cool when the temperatures rise. Island Kitchen Destinations is a new concept for dining and the resort has also added market stalls selling local handicrafts, beautiful saris and spices. Just to add some fun you may also find a secret bar in the garden! LUX* Belle Mare is a great option.

Galerie Vrot bespoke artworks • I would highly recommend a visit to Galerie Vrot. This gallery is located in Grande Baie and is owned by a delightful French painter called Françoise Vrot. Françoise came to Mauritius as an art student 18 years ago and fell in love with the island and with a Mauritian. Mauritius is now her home.
